Creating a new language arts unit can get complicated! There are the skills you need to cover plus the readings, writing prompts, practice sentences, etc that fit in with whatever content your unit is about – whether it is a novel, a holiday season, or a current events topic such as freedom of the press, plus any information that you may need to include. It’s no wonder that English teachers think twice before replacing any tried-and-true language arts unit!

When you do want a new unit, one thing that always seems helpful to me is a vocabulary list. Kids can use it in many activities for sure, but you can use it as well to help plan and organize your content.
